How to find inspiration for your wedding design

How to find inspiration for your wedding design

One of the first things we do before we begin working on a wedding design is to get to know our clients. How they live their lives, what’s important to them, where they like to vacation, what their favorite restaurants are, if they have pets etc. We believe your wedding should feel like you! We want your guests to walk into the venue and see your style reflected throughout the space and we want it to feel like you.

We want your guests’ experience to feel authentic. Do you love gardenias because your grandmother was an accomplished gardener and she had beautiful gardenias in her garden and smelling them always makes you think of her? Do you monogram everything? (I’m guilty of that. LOL) Take a look around your home to become inspired and see what you naturally gravitate towards.

The mood-board below reflects my style personally. I grew up in the Berkshires and Southern California so I think I gravitate towards casual and comfy yet traditional and somewhat vintage. I lived in Palm Beach for a few years which cured any fear of bright colors I may have had :) I think my style also varies based on the season (I love to decorate for the holidays in a very traditional New England way). When you’re stumped and overwhelmed with all the options out there, pause and take a look around your home and perhaps into your closet.

How would I bring this mood board into a wedding design? First I can see that while it’s fairly traditional there is a draw towards blue and a vintage, clean look. I would bring in vintage pressed glassware & antique flatware from Borrowed Blu paired with the Lamour Resort Blue linen from Peak Event Services. (This color reminds me of Grace Kelly. You can’t go wrong with Grace Kelly). Add an unexpected more modern black matte charger plate and dinner ware (also from Peak) and clean and sleek glass (or matte black) candlesticks with soft white taper candles we achieve a look that is both sexy and vintage.

The wrinkles in this linen are driving me crazy! I always travel with a steamer for situations like these!!!

My advice is to look inward and not at trends for that spark of inspiration. If you stay true to your own aesthetic you will end up with a highly personal celebration that you will be so much happier with!
